When flatmates go bad
Some of the stuff you guys have sent in about your weird flatmates has been making me hide under the doona and afraid of living with anyone again. There are some real freaks out there, like this one that Dino from London let me know about...
COMMENT: AUTHOR: Hannah EMAIL: hschwartz@realestate.com.au DATE: 2006-04-26 08:52:20 I had a roommate who used to bring home a different guy almost everynight. On more than one occasion, they would end up in my bedroom (as it was next to the bathroom and they were lost). One night one of the guys was so out of it, he tried to get into bed with me and got offended when I tried to explain he had the wrong roommate."Apart from growing his own drugs, and having a very intense personality, it turn out that he used to be hooked on herion, and to feed his habit he had turn to crime, robbed a post office, been sent to prison for 2 years".
Emma from South West London tells this slightly scary story about her one of her old flatmates. "In around April 2002 I moved into a house with 3 guys. Everything was going ok until one evening one particular housemate went on a mad rant after his usual 2 hours drinking cheap cider and smoking in the garden. He believed he knew what Saddam Hussein was thinking, and that he would know if I had been talking about him, of this discussion. He called me the Devil's child. He was obsessed with the idea I was having an affair with another housemate when I wasn't. At one point I thought he was going to get extremely violent after a drinking session. Once, when after accidentally slamming the front door too loud as I was leaving for work in the morning, he retaliated by stomping up and down the stairs in the middle of the night to wake me up but in the process, he woke everyone else up in the house and not just me".
"He would have paranoid delusions and then wake me up at 3am with heavy metal music. After a week we came to blows and I begged the university to find me another room in the halls of residence.", tells Phil from North London.
Weird or scary - what do you think? Let me know about any scary people that you've flatted with and I'll post the details here!

hey hannah - wish I could have changed places with you. I certainly wouldn't have kicked any randoms out for jumping into bed with me in the dark of night. I say bring it on, love, peace, liberation and all that. The more the merrier!!!

From my experience I've found that mental disorders and flatmates don't usually mix.
After waiting outside our house with a bag full of booze and skimpy attire (I had envisaged quick trip to offy) for an hour while my flatmate played loud music to avoid my phone calls and door buzzer... I thought for my health and drinking habit best to leave. She did not react to the news so great - and neither to my suggestion she seek professional help.
Oh yeah, and sleeping with my rather hairy, best mate who was married was not her best move either!

It was 2002 and I had just broken up with my boyfriend who had then moved out. My flatmates (a Aussie/Bulgarian couple and a Glaswegian guy) and I decided to go out for a few drinks one night before I was due to move out, and we all landed up getting rather drunk. The Aussie girl and I headed home first, as the boys had decided to stop for a kebab. On getting home, I got into my room, stripped off and climbed into bed, and fell asleep. A little while later, I was woken up by the Glaswegian stripping off and climbing into bed with me. Needless to say, I asked him to leave, which after trying unsuccessfully to get a cuddle, he did. I didn't sleep the rest of the night for fear of him coming back. He apologised the next morning, but it had me freaked out sufficiently for me to go stay at my brother until it was time for me to move into my new flat.

I lived at my friends house for nearly a year before I finally got so fed up and pissed evrybody off enough to make them all think they kicked me out, when in actuality, I just took off. There were many people living in this arrangement at the time... my friend, her little son, me, my boyfriend of the time, my friends two cousins and their bedmates, and another male friend. Lots of people crammed into a small space. The single male friend was a butthead. He would always come in drunk, loud, and berating everybody. I just got fed up one night after drinking a little too much and knocked 3 of his teeth out. He is the one who came to the front door knocking, broke the door down, dropped breakables, threw trash all over, and so much more. I have had more than enough of him and just walked up to him and punched him in the face. The cops were called, but I got away with it when they saw the place and figured I did it out of self-defense. I yelled at all the roomies and thanked them for NOT being on my side throughout the whole ordeal. I moved out and went back to my mommy's. Never again will I live with soooo many people. I can barely stand living by myself! I'm not a bad person, just have a temper problem when I do get frustrated.
